So it has apparently died when fetching articles from the group it
polled after mozilla.support.seamonkey, which I'd like to have
debugged.

Could you provide me with the output of:

ls -U /var/spool/news/interesting.groups
cat /var/spool/news/leaf.node/news.mozilla.org

so as to reduce the problem space for my hunt?
