[leafnode-list] AUTHINFO USER rejected: 483

I have just tried to start using Leafnode again.  With nntp.aioe.org,
when I run fetchnews, the reply is

AUTHINFO USER rejected: 483

and no list is fetched.

I have tried to read up about this, but all the info is in language
that developers understand, and there is no practical suggestion of what
I should do about it.  I am guessing that it is related to the recent
switch for SSL authentication?
