[leafnode-list] What does a 498 error mean?

498 is a code that leafnode uses internally to track the disconnect
condition. news.alt.net disconnected before sending its greeting, or
fetchnews waited too long (timed out) while waiting for the greeting -
these two messages describe the same condition.
