[leafnode-list] What does a 498 error mean?

Jun 21 15:04:01 debian fetchnews[9449]: error: news.alt.net: received
bogus greeting (498): (nil)


I'd like to know what exactly the second error message means. Google
knows nothing of it.

I'm using 1.11.2.rel.
