I know that I would prefer the simple method of switching off threading in
texpire.
I, too, have been wondering why there seem to be so many articles in some
groups like rec.arts.startrek.current, and why some articles have been expired
and some older ones are still there (my expire is set to 14 days). It turns
out that the groups where the articles stick around have a habit of long
running threads. Not 5-6 months as has been mentioned, r.a.st.* threads often
last 2 months (60 days).
I would have expected (naïvely, perhaps) that expiry was done solely on
individual article dates and that threading had nothing to do with it. Thread-
based expiry is a neat idea, but perhaps that should be the "extra" with
simple date expiry as the "basic"?
