I haven't had any other problems with such combinations of group
names, so it's probably OK. This sort of thing is not unusual in the
comp.* and uk.* hierarchies (at least).

I've chosen the latter solution.

I've reported it.
I bought a 25 GB "pay by download" block in early 2007, and I still
have over 17 GB left. (It carries a few interesting groups that
individual.net doesn't; I'm not charged for headers; and it's near the
end of my leafnode servers list so not many articles get fetched from
there.) When it runs out, I won't renew unless they've fixed this
problem, so there!
