Try the version I've been using for three months without any problems:

leafnode 2.0.0.alpha20081229a

This is still available from
<http://www.dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/~ma/leafnode/beta/>, and known bugs
in later snapshot releases suggest that it's the best version to install at
present. Read the included documentation about upgrading from Leafnode 1 to
Leafnode 2, and above all remember that the default spool location has
recently changed from /var/spool/news/ to /var/spool/leafnode/. If you use
your existing spool as an archive, I suggest backing it up, just in case.
