Hi Chris,
while I don't know how Debian/experimental is packaged, it should actually
be even simpler than that: don't run fetchnews if you're only serving local
groups (such as gatewayed mailing lists) without connection to upstream
groups. So tweak the script to not run fetchnews at all - this might be a
wishlist item for the package so as to be able, from /etc/defaults/leafnode
or something similar, to disable components that are becoming optional
(such as fetchnews) with leafnode-2's local serving capability.
