I am inserting a reply of the slrn maintainer here, perhaps it
gives someone some ideas.
[ Note: this does *not* happen with leafnode-1 ]

No such problem with the server of my ISP. From your description, I would
guess that it is a problem with Leafnode that is only triggered under
specific conditions. Comparing logs (--debug) of cases where the problem
does or does not arise may help to identify these conditions. Sorry that I
can't be of greater help right now.
