                ----------------------------------------
                 leafnode 1.10.0.rel has been released.
                ----------------------------------------
                    http://leafnode.sourceforge.net/

Leafnode 1.10.0.rel fixes two crashes in texpire that have been reported
rather frequently over the past weeks and fixes a portability problem in
fetchnews that affects systems with broken [v]snprintf functions.

At the same time, the outdated PCRE 3.9 release was dropped from the
leafnode distribution, because it is bulky and ships with many of the
popular operating systems. If you don't have it, see http://www.pcre.org/

This leafnode version offers no new features over 1.9.54 and is drop-in
compatible with 1.9.54.

All users of any leafnode-1.9 series version should update to 1.10.0.

A binary RPM for Linux with glibc 2.2 and i486 or compatible processors
is provided. It also requires a package providing libpcre.so.0 and xinetd.

Leafnode 1.10.0 is or will become available in .tar.bz2 format from these sites:

o SourceForge -- Source .tar.bz2 and i486 Linux RPM

   http://home.pages.de/~mandree/leafnode/
   rsync://www.dt.e-technik.uni-dortmund.de/leafnode-1/

o IBiblio/MetaLab (will take some days to pick up) -- has FTP sites
   http://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/MIRRORS.html
   Check the system/news/transport directory

Not all sites carry all files.

Below are file checksums and the NEWS file excerpt, with changes since
the previous release. The full ChangeLog ships with the tarballs and
can be viewed at http://home.pages.de/~mandree/leafnode/ChangeLog.txt

Have fun,

NEWS since previous release:
>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
### INCOMPATIBLE CHANGES
+ PCRE was dropped from the distribution. If it does not come with your
operating system, you can get it separately from http://www.pcre.org/

### BUGFIXES
+ Bugfix: texpire could crash when expiring groups that are on disk but not
longer in the active file. Reported by Johannes Berg, Debian bug #248824.
+ Bugfix: texpire could crash when all-numeric name components were in the
newsgroup name or in the path. Reported by José María Mateos.
+ Bugfix: texpire memory leaks in error handling paths.
+ Bugfix: print expiry time for groups that are no longer in the active file.
+ Portability: fetchnews aborted on systems with a broken [v]snprintf
function (such as FreeBSD 4.8 or 5.1) because it used the %p formatting that
isn't supported by the replacement snprintf that leafnode uses on these
systems. Fixes FreeBSD PR #67111, reported first by Jeff King.
