These two don't seem to be connected.

Please check news.notice. If that doesn't turn something up, see the
TROUBLESHOOTING section in the README file, edit syslog.conf and
/etc/leafnode/config as shown there, restart syslogd, then re-run
fetchnews, and reset debugmode to 0 in /etc/leafnode/config. Then mail
the log to me off-list after compression with gzip or bzip2.
